Vocal Arranging

Here’s an a cappella SSATBB vocal arrangement of the Stevie Wonder song “If It’s Magic” modeled after the sounds of The Singers Unlimited, Jacob Collier, and The New York Voices. Great challenging, well voice-led chart for any a cappella/vocal jazz ensemble. Recorded remotely by my Berklee group Point of Departure and mixed by me.

Big Band Arranging

A big band band chart replicating the Count Basie/Sammy Nestico swing of the 50s mixed with the sound of the great vocal jazz groups of the 40s like the Modernaires and The Pied Pipers. Performed by the Auckland Jazz Orchestra, with Emma Sundvik on lead vocals, and myself, Chris Peters, and James Gillen on backing vocals. Mixed by me.

Orchestral Arranging

A midcentury classic Hollywood-sounding arrangement of the American folk song “Home on the Range”, complete with swirling strings, woodwind solos, and lots of schmaltz. Performed by a small-scale full orchestra comprised of local professionals in Roslindale, MA. I also conducted and mixed this recording.

Transcriptions

My transcription and performance of the 1955 Four Freshmen classic, "We'll Be Together Again", featuring myself on guitar and Enrique Babilonia on trumpet. Many hours go into transcribing the dense voicings of advanced vocal jazz groups like The Four Freshmen, which I’ve thankfully honed my craft at doing. Also mixed by me.

Vocal + Rhythm Section Arranging

A modern classic neo-soul tune by Moonchild, arranged for SATB + rhythm section. In the vain of the vocal stylings of the New York Voices and säje. Performed by my Berklee group Point of Departure. Featuring Isaiah Carter on drums, Cameron Reichert on bass, Lorenzo Bellini on keys, and Reese Massey on vocal solo. Mixed by me.

Original Music

Here’s an original jazz fusion/funk tune inspired by Roy Hargrove, Jacob Mann, Michael Mayo, and more. I’m playing electric piano and singing. Featuring Gary Jones III on drums, Cameron Reichert on bass, Enrique Babilonia on trumpet, and Kapil Raman on sax. Mixed by me.

String Quartet + Large Ensemble Arranging

My bossa-nova arrangement of Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs", featuring Chris Peters on lead vocals, and Matthew Fields on string quartet (cello x4). And:

Kapil Raman - flute, alto sax, tenor sax

Enrique Babilonia - trumpet

Ben Cousins - clarinet

Aaron Hough - trombone

Cameron Reichert - electric bass

Also featuring myself on piano, guitar, BGVs, and mixing duties.

Original String Piece

An original string quartet composition with a first half inspired by Bach and second half inspired by Debussy. There is an intense amount of attention to detail in the voice-leading and part writing. Performed and recorded live by Berklee students in the Berklee “Ark” studio. I conducted and mixed this recording as well.
