Jazz Piano & Vocals
A duo performance with my friend Francesca Castro of the jazz standard “I’m Old Fashioned” by Jerome Kern. We did this mini arrangement on the spot, and it features advanced vocal and piano improvisation in a familiar format.
Jazz Piano Performance & Composition
My original tune “Coping Mechanism” performed live in a Berklee studio with my quartet. Showcasing a contemporary jazz composition sensibility and supportive, intentioned piano playing.
Vocalese/Scat Singing
My transcription and performance of a legendary vocalese by Jon Hendricks. Tongue-twisting phrases and bebop licks abound. Based on a solo by Sam “The Man” Taylor. From my recital on 11/01/21.
Vocal Multitracking
A multitrack recording of me singing all the parts to “Come Unto Me” by Take 6 — a group known for huge, complex chords and tricky inner voice-leading lines. No autotune/melodyne used.
Jazz Piano Trio
A trio recording of the beautiful Bill Evans composition “Time Remembered” featuring Colin Dorion on drums and Taylor Arbogast on bass. This tune is harmonically adventurous, as it traverses several key centers, yet through an incredibly simple melody. I reflect and expand on those melodic sensibilities in my improvisation.
4-Part Close Jazz Harmony
Singing Baritone and playing melodica with my award-winning vocal quartet “The Bean Tones”, seen here performing the “Day By Day” arrangement made famous by The Four Freshmen.
Vocal Group Directing
For 3 years I had the pleasure of co-directing and singing baritone in “Point of Departure”, Berklee’s Downbeat Award-winning student-run vocal jazz group. I did everything from leading rehearsal, to curating guest clinics, to organizing gigs throughout Boston. Here we are at one of our finest moments singing “Pass Me the Jazz”, a superbly intricate chart by The Real Group.
Guitar Performance
As a self-taught guitarist I claim no proficiency whatsoever. However, it’s still nice to know I can play chords and comp along on guitar if the situation ever called for it. Here’s an unassuming little arrangement I did of “Julia” by The Beatles.
Vocal Agility
In the vain of the great Bobby McFerrin and Yo-Yo Ma, here is a vocal rendition of Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from The Well-Tempered Clavier, with my friend Matthew Fields playing Charles Gounod’s melody over top, known as “Ave Maria”. Arpeggio city.
